HiFlyer Floats over Holy Ground

Last month saw the launch of the latest addition to the HiFlyer fleet in India. Situated in Ambaji which is located approximately 120 miles north of the Gujarati judicial capital Ahmedabad. Ambaji is considered one of the most important “temple towns” with millions of  devotees visiting the ancient Mata temple every year.

The HiFlyer site is located minutes from the Mata Temple 1 of only 51 temples in India devoted to the goddess Shakti.

Solar Tower

Using a solar tower in a desert for generating electricity is not new but to date the only installations were constructed from sea tower’s.  The scientist Dr. David Rabanus who worked for the ALMA Astronomy station in the Atacama Desert in Chile was annoyed at the inefficiency of the power generation and was seeking an alternative energy source.  He found the solar tower but realised that the existing one’s couldn’t work in the Atacama Desert as the land is very earthquake prone. 

He contacted Lindstrand Technologies to see if we could manufacture a fabric inflatable structure that would be earthquake proof and this is exactly what we are doing now.  This is being covered in National News and Per Lindstrand has given numerous interviews upon the development work being undertaken.

24 Hour Flying

The new HiFlyer in Tallinn is setting high standards within the first three months of flying.  They are the first Hiflyer site to fly continuously for 24 hours.

On Saturday 19th July and Saturday 26th July both crew and balloon flew for 24 hours.  This allowed visitors to take in the scenic and stunning views of Tallinn in day and Tallinn at night.

HiFlyer excitement with Cruise Liners

The Tallinn HiFlyer is in the perfect situation to see views over the city centre, park Kadriorg and the sea.  It seems that the sea has drawn more visitors to the HiFlyer when 3 Cruise liners pulled up along side.

Passengers enjoyed the panoramic view from the 120 meters height, in good weather conditions the visibility is more approximately 43 kilometres.  This is the highest open-air viewpoint in the Tallinn city centre.

 Contract Mechanical Design Engineer (Shropshire SY10) Required

A vacancy has arisen working for a Lindstrand Technologies Limited.  We currently have an exciting project in the pipeline and are looking for a skilled engineer to join the team on a contract basis. 

Overview

  • 6 Months Contract
  • All design to be completed on Autocad Inventor/Mechanical
  • Working on the design of industry leading special purpose machinery

The Ideal Candidate

To take on this contract position you must be an experienced and skilled user of Autocad within a light to medium engineering environment. Candidates from various backgrounds will be considered but hands on engineering experience would be an advantage as well as a good general knowledge of design for manufacture.

 Ideal candidates will come from a background in special purpose machinery design and project delivery. Classic Design Engineer role working as part of a team but with individual project management responsibility from start to installation.

•You MUST be an experienced mechanical design engineer with specific experience of working with capital equipment and/or special purpose machinery.

•You MUST be a qualified mechanical engineer ideally to HND level or higher.

•You MUST have experience of using 3D CAD software (Autocad).

The Role

The role is both challenging and diverse, ranging from concept, modification and detail work to costing and project engineering. The company are keen to develop and empower all of their staff so your ideas and input will be welcome and valued throughout each project you work on. There may also be opportunities to get out on to client sites and get involved in the full project lifecycle.

High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE)

There is a need for wide-band global connectivity, telecommunications and internet, but solutions are often expensive like Satellites, risky, and require long development cycles. 

Lindstrand Technologies Limited over many years have been working on having the much more cost affective solution – The airship, or aerostat.  It is the only class of stratospheric platform that can maintain flight duration measured in months even today.  Since the late 1950s high altitude station keeping platforms have been under research.  But now materials and technologies have improved since these early days and key systems could now be made simpler, lighter and more reliable.  The capability to develop an High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) stratospheric airship is now within reach.

One of the aerostats designed is an aerostatic platforms based on a solar powered aerodynamic super-pressure airship.  Fuel cells are used for high efficient energy storage, i.e. for night time power supply and an intelligent propulsion system will provide a reliable thrust also in the case of heavy winds.

The airship will point out the capabilities of long-term , telecommunications mission (approximately 5 years), high accuracy station keeping and recovery in addition to demonstrating the feasibility of the concept of stratospheric airships focusing on inflation of the hull and transition to the stratosphere plus successful operation over the telecommunications and internet mission length.

Origin Paddleboards

Paddleboard Team

We are very pleased to announce our partnership with Origin Paddleboards.  Lindstrand Technologies will become the sole manufacturer of Origin’s range of inflatable stand up paddle boards.

The project with Origin aims to have boards manufactured in the UK with as many European sourced parts as possible to reduce the carbon footprint of the product. With bags made from fabric offcuts, packaging & advice cards all made from recycled materials and the finished product sent with carbon offset shipping, every part of the process has been considered.

Next week we will be in Orlando at the largest trade show for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA).  We are joining more than 27,000 industry colleagues and 1,000 companies, and this will be our 17th year in attendance.  The show opens on Tuesday 18th November and runs daily until Friday 21st November.

 

We will be on stand 3691 and we will be showcasing the SkyFlyer.  Our other products including the HiFlyer will also be available and we have agents from around the world flying in to visit with us.

Guiness World Records

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Guinness World Records, Guinness World Records selected some of the most iconic records of the last 60 years. We are thrilled and honoured that Richard and Per’s Trans Atlantic Hot air balloon crossing made the final selection.

Lost Beagle2 probe found ‘intact’ on Mars

The Beagle2 project that Lindstrand Technologies worked on in 2003 has been found ‘intact’ on Mars.  Lindstrand Technologies manufactured the parachute that was used to decelerate the spacecraft on its journey to the surface of Mars.

PA to Managing Director

Job description:       PA to Managing Director

Lindstrand Technologies Ltd is a world renowned manufacturer in the lighter-than-air industry, and has been successfully trading for over 30 years.

The company is currently looking to recruit an experienced PA to provide a proactive and professional administrative support service to the Managing Director and other senior members of staff.

The MD spends a considerable amount of time travelling and the purpose of this role is to manage the MD’s office and provide a consistently high standard of professional support in order to ensure he is able to operate in an efficient manner, and maximize the use of his time.  This is a very varied job and will require someone who can adapt to a rapidly changing environment, has the ability to manage their own workload and work closely with colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be the first point of contact for all communications to the MD
  • To meet and greet the MD’s visitors ensuring they are welcomed into a friendly and professional environment
  • To communicate and build relationships with senior members of staff, clients and other officials in a respectful and professional manner
  • Keep track of, and contribute to, the management and progression of RFQs, tenders, customer correspondence and ongoing projects
  • Ensure that the MD is appropriately briefed on the status of ongoing RFQs, tenders, correspondence and projects
  • Ensure appropriate dissemination of correspondence and requests to the MD so that items can be actioned in a timely manner
  • Providing senior staff with advice and guidance on the MD’s wishes

Diary Management

  • To manage the MD’s diary including organisation of meetings, facilitating travel arrangements and liaising with internal and external participants
  • To use wise judgement to manage and prioritise competing demands
  • To ensure all information and papers relating to the MD’s meetings and visits are provided prior to the event in a well ordered and properly presented manner

Administrative Support

  • To provide flawless administrative support to the MD, compiling information and drafting high quality documents.  In particular the PA will:
    • Answer any phone calls and handle the capturing of all messages
    • Ensure that all enquiries and correspondence are dealt with promptly and effectively
    • Produce letters, reports and documents (including confidential items) as well as proof-reading and editing work
    • Utilise a variety of software packages to produce correspondence/ documents and maintain presentations, spreadsheets and databases
    • Collate information and prepare the first draft of PowerPoint presentations
    • Manage the filing system (both electronic and paper) as directed
    • Website management including updating news items and content
    • Travel planning (UK/ overseas) and visa processing where required

General office management/ support

  • To ensure the efficient management of information, including making certain that electronic and paper records system are well maintained
  • To work in close collaboration with other members of staff including the Chief Engineer, Sales and Operations Director and Design Team
  • To work in close collaboration with other office administrative staff with regard to general office matters such as stock management and ensuring continuity of support
  • To liaise with service providers including IT, resolving issues as and when required

Qualification Criteria

  • Qualified to A Level or equivalent
  • Ideally qualified to degree level
  • Recognised secretarial or administrative qualification would be beneficial
  • Right to work in the UK

Experience

  • Experience of providing PA support to staff at a senior level
  • Highly computer literate, with experience of data handling and necessary IT systems (including PowerPoint, diary management using Microsoft Outlook)
  • Experience of handling large amounts of administration and managing competing demands
  • Experience of collating information and producing high quality correspondence, reports and presentations
  • Project management or planning
  • Experience of financial planning and compilation of business spreadsheets
  • Experience of personnel issues/ Human Resources would be advantageous
  • Experience in a manufacturing/ aerospace field would be advantageous

Personal Characteristics

  • Excellent verbal communication skills – ability to communicate at all levels and have the confidence to handle sometimes difficult phone conversations in a calm and professional manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – the ability to build and maintain relationships internally and externally
  • Helpful, approachable and calm with a positive attitude towards work
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Adaptable, organised, and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Sound judgement
  • Able to maintain discretion and confidentiality
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on ad-hoc duties in support of the company and occasional out-of-hours work

Per Lindstrand sold his interest in Lindstrand Hot Air Balloons Ltd to Cameron Balloons of Bristol in 2003.

Since then he has been successfully operating Lindstrand Technologies Ltd.

Based in Oswestry for over 35 years Lindstrand Technologies Ltd specialise in the design development and manufacture of lighter than air products.

These products include HiFlyers - SkyFlyers- Aerostats and Inflatable Buildings not hot air balloons!
